Lautoka Blues midfielder Aporosa Yada will be a player to watch in the coming future.
The Nadroga native scooped the Digicel Fiji FACT golden ball winner and dedicated their win to his mother.
The Lautoka midfielder was impressive throughout the 2023 edition of the tournament and set up the Blue’s first goal in their 2-1 win over Rewa in the final at the HFC Bank in Suva last two weeks ago.
Yada, 21, who is the younger brother of Epeli Leiroti is also part of the victorious side.
He said that he always remembers his mother, Masilina Malakai, every time he takes the field.
“My mum had always wanted to come to watch me at my games, but she couldn’t make it because of certain challenges,” said Yada.
“We live very far away, so she just decides to stay home and await the results of our game. This win is for her.”
He added that the win is also special for him since he helped the team clinch the FACT title which Lautoka last won in 2002, the same year he was born.
He played in the full 90 minutes plus the 30 minutes of extra time where lanky striker Saula Waqa netted the winning goal. The Blues did walk away with a prize of $17,000.
