Yee Names Fiji Squad To Commonwealth Youth Games

Team Fiji chef de mission to the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) Calvin Yee has named a team of 24 athletes and 11 officials. The CYG will be on August 4-11 in Trinidad and Tobago.

Yee said Team Fiji would participate in athletics, cycling, rugby sevens (men’s and women’s), swimming and triathlon.

Sevens rugby will be played at Shaw Park Cultural Complex on August 6-8.

The Fijian men’s sevens team will be competing against the host nation, Canada, Jamaca, Scotland and South Africa.

The women’s sevens team will face Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Wales, Kenya and Australia.

Team Fiji has attended six previous CYG since 2000 and winning nine medals in athletics Heleina Young, swimmer Taichi Vakasama along with rugby athletes of Olympian Jiowana Sauto, Flying Fijian lock Temo Mayanavanua and Super Rugby winger Timoci Tavatavanawai.

Yee highlighted that all other athletes and officials now have a 48-hour period to appeal their non-selection for the Team Fiji 2023 CYG.

This is as per FASANOC’s Selection Justification Policy, ‘Athletes and team officials have an opportunity to appeal their non-selection over another athlete.
