Youngster wins Valentine’s snooker

A 16-year-old snooker player from Olosara in Sigatoka won the Western Customs Brokers sponsored Valentine’s Snook­er Championship at the Lau­toka’s South Sea Club on Sat­urday.

A 16-year-old snooker player from Olosara in Sigatoka won the Western Customs Brokers sponsored Valentine’s Snook­er Championship at the Lau­toka’s South Sea Club on Sat­urday.

Manav Raj beat Roneel Sami 2-1 in the final.

Raj received $300 for winning the one-day tournament.

In the semifinal, he beat for­mer Fiji champion Epeli Bua 2-1.

The youngster also defeated Lautoka’s Vinesh Prasad, in the quarterfinal and Inoke Qerqeretabua in the pre-quar­ters.

Sami beat Rajnesh Nand 2-1 in the semi-final and 2-0 win over Irshad Hassan in the quarter-final.

Club secretary Raymond Red­dy said the tournament was a success with some partici­pants coming from Suva, Nau­sori, Sigatoka, and Nadi.

“There were eight pools of three players,” he added.

Reddy also thanked their sponsors Feroz Khan of West­ern Customs Brokers for back­ing the competition.
