Former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Joseph Kwadjo is embracing a new challenge as he moves up another weight division to face Kimo Vakalalabure at Suva’s Vodafone Arena on July 25.

The veteran boxer, who has a professional record of 43 fights with 28 knockouts and 13 losses, said preparations are on track ahead of the bout.

The two will fight in the heavyweight division under the Kings Boxing Promotion programme.

“My preparations are going well. It’s great to be back, and so far everything has been on track,” Kwadjo told SUNsports yesterday.

Kwadjo said he was grateful to be injury-free and ready to step back into the ring.

“I thank God for His protection. I’ve had no injuries and I’m ready to fight with my team behind me.”

The experienced boxer said moving into a new weight class was another opportunity to test himself.

“Sometimes you have to believe in yourself and challenge yourself. That’s how you discover what you’re capable of,” he said.

He added that he trusted his trainers to guide him once the fight began.

“When I get into the ring, I listen to my coaches and follow the game plan. That’s my focus.

“I always appreciate the support, whether people are cheering for me or my opponent. I encourage everyone to come out and support local boxing.”

Kwadjo last fought on February 22, 2025 against Robin Hazelman at Vodafone Arena; he won by technical knockout (TKO) in their cruiserweight contest.
