Aisea Naicovu has been disqualified from boxing for the rest of the year while Frederick Chand has been declared the winner in their Bluewater Boxing bout at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka two weeks ago.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) chairman Adi Narayan.

Naicovu had punched Chand while he was still on the canvas. Chand was stretchered of the ring and taken to hospital where he was admitted for observation. The referee Mun Sami ruled the fight a no-contest.

“He committed a foul as a result; he should have been disqualified by the referee when the incident occurred, you don’t call it a no-contest, it’s a foul.”

Narayan was informed that Chand was discharged on the second day of his admission at the hospital.

“We did follow up with the promoter (Bluewater boxing) Samir Khan and he’s (Chand) at home,” he said.

“From what I’ve been told by the promoter Khan, he followed up with the doctor who told him that it was only a minor concussion and it’s nothing serious.”

Narayan added that Chand was advised by his doctor to rest and recover for the rest of the year.

“There is one promotion left. We will not consider him (Chand) to come back and fight again until the doctors certifies him to
