The challenge made by Junior Binnu Singh for a rematch against Sydney based featherweight boxer Runqi ‘Chinese Terminator’ Zhou is the way to go.

This was the view of trainer Lepani Wilson who told SUNsports that this is the only for Singh to make the world rankings.

“Singh gained nothing from his win over Varun Phaytal of India in terms of world rankings,” Wilson said.

“The only way for Fiji boxers to hit the world rankings is by fighting and beating the Australian boxers. The same cannot be said about boxers from India and New Zealand.”

In their earlier fight, Zhou won on a split points decision, which was disputed by Singh’s camp.

Wilson highlighted that Sakaraia Ve was able to be ranked 7th by the World Boxing Council (WBA) and World Boxing Association (WBC) in the 1980s because he fought and beat all the top welterweight boxers in Australia.

“Even the late Joy Ali defended the PABA (Pan Asian Boxing Association) super welterweight title against Australia’s champion Gary Comer and was ranked 15th by WBA.”

Wilson called on the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) to work with the promoters in getting boxers like Fiji heavyweight champion Semi Dauloloma and Mikaele Ravalaca fights.

Semi and Mika will soon become drawcards, so they need to be given more game time to build them up. With Junior Binnu doing well, its time to bring up other boxers as well.
