Professional boxing in the country needs a review if it is to progress.
This was the view of Sydney-based trainer Lepani Wilson.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Wilson said before the review is carried out, they must change the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BFC) directors, which also include the chairman Adi Narayan.
‘The directors have done their job and it’s time to get in new people that will move the sport forward,” Wilson said.
“It is these new directors and the new BCF chairman, that must conduct the review to determine the way forward.”
The wily trainer said the review must ensure that the operations of BCF is in-line with the boxing promulgation.
“There are lots of issues to be addressed, which is going to take time and money.
"It’s best to start with what we can control and how we can do it better. Also, things like match making, how our boxers are getting approvals to fight abroad despite their poor record and inactivity.
“Also, the pathway for our upcoming boxers to improve on their international rankings. Then we’ve got the promoters and boxers, which are just some of the things we need to look at,” Wilson said.
