Fiji FA support boosts Rewa

The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has thrown their support behind Rewa’s bid for Oceania glory by providing financial assistance ahead of the OFC Men’s Champions League competition, which kicks-off on August 9.

Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said Rewa carried the nation’s hopes into the regional competition and deserve their full backing.

“Rewa is Fiji’s sole representative in this prestigious tournament, and we are proud to support their campaign,” Yusuf said.

He said Rewa would be making their third consecutive appearance in the OFC Champions League after earning qualification through its domestic success.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said hosting the tournament in Fiji was a significant investment but one the association was willing to make to give its representative every opportunity to succeed.

“It costs us a lot to host the Champions League, but when a Fijian club is representing the country, we have a responsibility to give them every chance to succeed,” Patel said.

“We will continue to support Rewa because our goal is to see a Fijian club win the OFC Champions League and qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup.”

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the club, Rewa FC vice-president Prasad thanked Fiji FA for the financial support and the use of the Fiji Football academy as the team’s training base.

“The financial assistance and access to the academy have been invaluable to our preparations,” Prasad said.

Prasad called on football fans to get behind Rewa as the club chases a historic OFC title win.

Rewa faces Auckland City at Churchill Park in Lautoka on August 9.
