The Labasa men’s football team aims to end its winless run against Ba in their Extra Premier League clash at Govind Park in Ba tomorrow.
Known as the Babasiga Lions, the side heads into the match seeking a crucial win to boost its position on the points table.
Labasa coach Alvin Chand said his team respects Ba’s pedigree but is focused on building a winning culture.
“With all due respect to Ba, they have built a strong squad this year and are league leaders for a reason, based on their performances in the EPL,” he said.
Ba boast experienced attackers including Sairusi Nalaubu, Vilitati Kautoga and Etonia Dogalau.
However, the Northerners are also in good form since Round 3, recording wins over Nadroga (5-0), Nadi (3-1) and Navua (5-2), along with a 0-0 draw against Suva, collecting 10 points in that stretch.
Chand said his players understood the importance of the challenge.
Labasa has yet to beat Ba at the newly refurbished Govind Park.
He added that his side’s attack has improved, highlighted by five goals in the win over Navua.
Striker France Catarogo, a former Ba player, leads Labasa’s scoring with four goals after six rounds, while Aporosa Yada and Gerard Avock have three each.
Chand said the team would treat the match like a final.
Kick-off is at 3pm.
