The Labasa football team recorded their first Digicel Premier League win by beating Ba 5-2 at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, yesterday.

Striker Siotame Kubu was the toast of the Babasiga Lions after scoring a hat-trick of goals.

What happened: Lanky Ba striker Saula Waqa put his side into the lead from a classic header.

It took time for Labasa to settle down and scored the equaliser in the 41st minute through former Fijian Under-17 striker Frances Catarogo.

He is the son of former Labasa star striker Solomon Catarogo.

In the 45th minute Kubu rifled the ball to the back of the net.

Halftime: Ba 1-2 Labasa.

Ba came back firing and Manasa Nawaikula headed in the equaliser.

Labasa kept on the pressure and Kubu made it 3-2 a few minutes later.

In their celebrating Labasa striker Christopher Wasasala slapped Ba goalkeeper Tevita Koroi and got a red card.

Veteran Taniela Waqa nodded in Labasa’s fourth goal from a freekick.

This took the fight out of the Ba side and Kubu had the last say with another superb goal.
