Nadroga To Work On Key Areas, Says Coach

Consistency and good game management are vital for Nadroga football if they want to remain in the Digicel Premiere League.

Last Sunday, the Nadroga defenders’ lapse of concentration saw Suva utilising the opportunity to kick in the equaliser to settle for a 2-2 draw in their DPL clash at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

Speaking to SUNsports head coach Kamal Swamy said members of the young Nadroga side need to be switched on all the time.

“I know we were without some experienced players that is why they need to manage their games well,” Swamy said.

“The fourth official showed seven minutes of extra time and if only the boys had endured for just a few minutes but that did not happen.

“It’s the mental toughness side of things, it depends on how we can hold on to a lead.

“It’s either we hold on to the lead or we build on it depending on the situation.

“These young players came out and played well against a team like Suva. Credit to them for the good fight, now that they have experienced this, they must know and fought till the final whistle.

“It’s a 90 minutes game and we should learn to be switched on and stay focused until the final whistle.

“The onus is on the young players to learn from senior players.

“It’s back to the drawing board for us in this week’s training.

“We will have to work on our mindset on how we can handle pressure.

“Training this week will centre around game management.

“We will work on how the boys understand and manage the game.

“Senior players like Rusiate Matirerega and Amani Makoe should step up and manage the game during the dying moments of the match.

“It’s a learning curb for a young team like us, a developed side that is growing into the game.

“We need to win our next game so that we remain in the DPL.

“The next three points is very important to us as it determines our future in the DPL.”
