The Navua football team has shifted their focus to this weekend’s Extra Premier League clash.

The Southerners are on a high after reaching last weekend’s BiC Fiji FACT tournament final. They lost 3-1 to Ba on penalty kicks after they were tied 0-0 at full-time.

Navua head coach Roderick Singh told SUNsports, the team had put the tournament behind them and are now focused on improving their position on the EPL points table.

“With the Fiji FACT now over, our focus has shifted to the league. It is very important because we are currently sitting eighth on the table,” Singh said.

He said the team aims to build on their performance from the Fiji FACT and try to be consistent with their performance. “We want to continue playing the way we did during the Fiji FACT, remain consistent and be more confident when facing the bigger teams,” he said.

Singh said one of the biggest lessons from the Fiji FACT was the importance of taking scoring opportunities.

“We learned that converting our chances is crucial. We don’t want matches to be decided by penalties because they can go either way,” he said.

He thanked the Navua football supporters for standing behind the team throughout the tournament.

“Especially, the Vashish Muni’s head teacher, management and the staff for supporting us throughout this campaign,” Singh added.
