Rewa striker Mosese Nabose was hailed the hero for the Delta Tigers when he slotted the only goal in yesterday’s match.

Rewa beat Labasa, 1-0, in the first leg of the Pillay Garments CvC (Champion versus Champion) at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

Nabose scored the crucial goal with a simple tap in from a rebound off the goal post on the 10th minute of the game.

Head coach Priyant Manu their 1-0 win was a great start for the year after losing many of their key players.

“We still managed to play well and I thank the players for stepping up,” Manu said.

“We had so many difficulties in getting the players in but the boys stood up the test and we managed to execute what we planned through the three weeks.”

Manu was impressed with his players composure on the field.

“We started well and we managed to get the win,” he said.

“We had so many new players and one of our youth players started in the second half so it shows the development in Rewa as the players stood up to the test when needed.”

Manu added that the team will need to recover, reset and set up a game plan against Labasa in the second leg of the CVC.

“I urge the fans to continue their support for the team,” he said.

“The new players settled in well and they adapted well too and I’m happy with the performance.”

Manu praised Nabose as a reliable player who can perform in crucial games.

“The ground was a bit water logged so we decided to play the ball in Labasa’s half and press from there.”

Labasa head coach Alvin Chand was proud of his player’s efforts despite their 1-0 loss to Rewa.

“This game was very important to begin our campaign this season and a lot of players have left with new faces joining the squad,” he said.

“The players have one week to assess and analyze their performance after a competitive game against Rewa.”

The second leg of the CvC will be on Saturday at Subrail Park, Labasa
