National football head coach Flemming Serritslev is looking forward to the resumption of the Digicel Premier League this Sunday.

“It should be interesting,” he told SUNsports yesterday.

Serritslev said after many months of inactivity he is expecting a slow start in the competition.

“I believe returning to play after six months, match fitness will be a challenge for all teams,” he said.

“I expect a slow start in the competition after 14 days of training and some of the players will be tired.

“They have been out for too long and we really don’t know if they were doing their personal training or not.

“It will be really tough for these players to return to play 90-minute football.”

Serritslev believes all teams would slowly make progress as the competition continues.

“I only hope the players had been training on their own during the lockdown period.

“All teams are trying to do their best to continue from where they had left off in April.

“It will be tough because they will go step-by-step to reach the level, they had been playing in.”

Meanwhile, Serritslev was happy with the progress of the players in the national squad.

“They (players) are really good with one being injured, but he is well taken care of by our medical team and physiotherapy.

I’m not worried about having them (national squad) to be physically fit for March. For sure we will be able to do this.

“But the lack of matches for players is a worry at the moment.”
