The country’s first Women’s Super Six football competition was officially launched at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau, Nadi, yesterday.

United Nations Women Fiji Multi-Country Office Communications and Media specialist Shazia Usman, who unveiled the logo, said this was a milestone achievement for the Fiji Football Association, where gender equality has become a dream come true.

“And just like the brilliant logo that was launched today of the spinning frangipani symbolising the growing momentum of women’s football. We hope that it also symbolises progress toward gender equality for all Fijian women in all aspects of their lives,” he said.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said all 14 districts’ women’s teams were participating in one league, which is the Women’s Senior League.

He said, only the top six teams in the country participate in this Super Six division.

“We have not segregated women from the men. They are given the same opportunity in the sport they love. Women have overtaken men in football,” he said.
