Suva Muslim College (SMC) Under-19 team is aiming to win their first national futsal title as they head to the Extra Fiji Secondary Schools national futsal competition.
The three-day competition begins tomorrow at the Fiji Football Association futsal court in Vatuwaqa and FMF Gymnasium, Suva. It will end on Saturday.
SMC U19 captain Faizal Lawrence Hanif told SUNsports on Monday they are excited.
“We are looking forward. Our preparations have been well,” Hanif said.
“We hope to win the U19 grade.
“We need to improve on our de-fence because it was weak during the Southern zone competition. Hanif said they conduct two training sessions daily.
He said their team would go back, reset and review their weaknesses and learn from their mistakes so they could get back on track.
“Please do come and support SMC.”
SMC was runner-up in last year’s national championship.
They are grouped in Pool A with Central College, Tavua College and Labasa College.
Meanwhile, Extra supermarket senior marketing executive Dhiraj Singh said they are thrilled to be major sponsors of the nationals.
“As major sponsors, we are delighted to be back at the competition for the fourth consecutive year,” Singh said.
Extra has been sponsors of the Fiji Secondary School Futsal competition since 2023.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said that the futsal competition is a safe sport to participate in.
“Futsal is a sport that we can all engage in and it can be played in a polar peach and a safer peach,” Yusuf said.
