Leading local professional golfer Sam Lee is tipped to win the 50th RC Manubhai sponsored Ba Golf Open title at the Rarawai Golf Course this weekend.

Ba Golf Club vice-captain Rohit Chandra told SUNsports yesterday that Lee had a great outing in the local competitions but is going to face tough competition from defending pro champion Amitesh Chandra.

Other professionals in the run are Ba lawyer Vikrant Chandra, Zoheer Ahmad and youngster Baroon Hussein.

“Amateur golfer Rajen Singh will be defending the open title at the age of 62,” Chandra said.

“Rajen played five over par overall when he won the 49th RCM Ba Open.

Other big names in the amateur’s field are Nadi businessman Abid Hussein, Avinesh Datt, Rajesh Patel, Wella Pillay, and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Chandra said this was the Golden 0Jubilee tournament for RC Manubahi’s sponsorship for the past 50 years. This is a milestone because the Ba Open Golf has been played for over 90 years to date.

“Professionals will be playing for a sum of $4000 and amateurs more than $5000 worth of prizes,” he added.

“We expected a field of 80 golfers and this is the first time that professionals will play for two days in the Ba Open. Women and the junior’s category will be held for the first time. We will have giveaway packs for the players provided by the sponsors,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Cardo’s Friday’s for Animals Fiji single Stableford is on today.

The entry fee is $10 which is donated to Animals Fiji and the best score wins a $200 voucher which can be used at Cardo’s.

DGRC manager Amitesh Chandra said, “We thank Cardo for his great support of our club and also Animals Fiji who do such great work. Competitors must have an official handicap to qualify for prize.”
