Tuivuna ends Chandra’s reign

Tomasi Tuivuna ended Vikrant Chandra’s reign to win the GM Motors Fiji Classics 2026 professional title, while Rajat Rai claimed the amateur crown before heading to the Samoa Open.
The Fiji Order of Merit leader fired a tournament total of eight-under-par 208 to win at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club last Saturday.
Tuivuna led from the opening round with a five-under-par 67, followed by a four-under 68 before closing with a one-over-par 73.
“It has been great over the last three days,” Tuivuna said.
“I thank all the overseas golfers who came in numbers to support this event. The sponsors were great. See you all in 2027. Some of us will travel to Samoa for the Samoa Open.”
The victory ended Vikrant Chandra’s hold on the professional title since 2024.
Roneel Prakash (72, 71, 73) and Zoheer Ahmad (69, 68, 79) finished tied for second on 216.
Rai claims amateur title
Overseas-based golfer Rai won the men’s amateur title after defeating Ishan Shah in a play-off following a tie on 218.
“It’s an honour and a privilege. After months of hard work, to see it all come together is a surreal feeling,” Rai said.
“To be honest, I was nervous over the first two days. On the final day I wasn’t at my best, so I focused on keeping steady and playing my own game.
“It is always tough competing against both overseas and local golfers.
“The stronger the field, the tougher the competition, but I enjoyed every moment.”
Rai will compete at this week’s SIFA Samoa Open before returning to New York the following week to resume his studies.
Legi Amosa claimed the men’s overall net title with a score of 194.
Fiji PGA treasurer Amitesh Chandra acknowledged the hard-working staff, sponsors and the golfers that made it happen.
