Push to strengthen sports governance in Fiji

Efforts to strengthen governance standards across Fiji’s sporting organisations took centre stage at a three-day workshop in Suva this week.
The Fiji National Sports Commission (FNSC) hosted the Sports Good Governance Workshop from March 16 to 18 at the Grand Pacific Hotel, bringing together 30 participants from 20 National Sporting Organisations, along with regional partners.
The workshop focused on improving transparency, accountability and leadership within sporting bodies, as organisations face growing expectations to meet governance standards.

“Strong governance is the foundation upon which successful sporting organisations are built. When we strengthen transparency, accountability, and leadership within our organisations, we strengthen the entire sporting ecosystem of Fiji,” Mr Mazey said.
The programme is part of ongoing efforts to align local sporting organisations with international best practice and evolving regulatory standards.
Participants took part in sessions covering board responsibilities, financial oversight, risk management, safeguarding and organisational accountability.
The involvement of regional bodies such as the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee and the Oceania National Olympic Committees highlighted the importance of collaboration in lifting governance standards across the Pacific.
The commission said it would continue supporting sporting organisations through training, policy development and partnerships to strengthen governance and accountability across the sector.
