The Tai Warriors Rugby League Club has conducted their two-day rugby league clinic. The club was assisted by the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) development team.

Speaking to SUNsports, Tai Warriors technical advisor Misaele Raiqele said he was grateful to the FNRL development team for supporting their community through the clinic.

Thanks for reaching out to our rural community and conducting the two-day clinic, he said.

It has helped extend the skills and knowledge of our players in the 13-men code. For a rugby un-ion club that has played the sport for almost six decades, switching to rugby league was not an easy decision.

Raiqele said they aim to create a constructive environment for players from their region, especially those competing at nation-al level.

Tai Warriors is a newly formed rugby league club from the Northland region. This team is not only for the Tikina of Tai but will represent Northland in the FNRL competition in 2026, he

said.

Raqele said the programme is expected to bring positive change within the community by engaging youths and steering them away from criminal activities.

We are really looking forward to competing for the first time in the FNRL competition in 2026 and continuing the legacy of creating pathways for these elite players, he said.

The Tai Rugby League team is based in Naisaumua Village in Tailevu North.

is a vanua based team that will operate from Naisaumua Village. Our mission is to provide a constructive environment for these raw talented players and expose them to national level competition, he added.

Raiqele said the club was formed last year after discussions with their rugby union management, who agreed to form a rugby league side to accommodate dedicated players from the Northland region.

He also highlighted that sponsorship remains a major challenge for the young club.

The only challenge is looking for sponsors, especially now that we will be competing at the national level, he added.
