The British Army 7s rugby team hopes to continus the legacy set by former service men.

Manager Vanavasa Bai said a number of soldiers had represented England and Fiji during their time with the Army including Isoa Damudamu and Solodrau Radianirova.

He hoped that their participation at their first Coral Coast 7s a fortnight ago would motivate the players to work hard towards the national jumper.

“Over the weeks we were reminded of previous players like Damudamu, Apolosi Satala who represented Fiji and went over to join the Army,” Bai said.

“They are the ones that created the legacy and we are just here to uphold the legacy and try move forward with a humble heart.

“Some of these players managed to open doors for the national selectors, then so be it. We wanted to come and showcase our talent which is something that I believe that the players carry with them and with humble experience and humble of hearts. They can explore that opportunity when it comes.”

Bai said their team was given the test they needed and the tough competition was expected.

“The Coral Coast 7s is becoming more popular over the world, where else can you play to such beautiful arena? There’s plan in place to return, but I can’t make any promises.”

Bai thanked their line managers in the UK, Army Rugby Union, Army Sports Control Board for allowing them with funds and budgets to enjoy the three-day tournament.

The British Army 7s side was thrashed by Drua 7s, 29-0, in the men’s shield final.
