Capital Insurance successfully held its first rugby clinic on Saturday at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, in partnership with the Serevi International Academy of Rugby.

The community-focused youth programme featured sevens maestro Waisale Serevi and former Flying Fijians winger Nemani Nadolo, who are brand ambassadors for the company.

The development clinic brought together young athletes from five local rugby clubs — Vuniqele, Namuka-i-Lau, Nuku, Dreketi and Fiji Sports Council — some travelling from as far as Naitasiri, for a full day of skills training, mentorship and leadership development.

Teams also played a friendly 10s tournament, which was won by Vuniqele.

Capital Insurance chief executive officer David Chan said the company was committed to supporting youth empowerment, wellbeing and community development through grassroots rugby.

“Rugby is more than a sport for us — it is a pathway to confidence, discipline, teamwork and strong values. When young people succeed, we succeed,” Chan said.

He told participants that every great rugby journey began with a small step of faith, hard work and determination.

“Greatness does not start with talent alone — it starts with belief. Every time you show up, push yourself and take one more step towards the player and person you’re meant to become,” he said.

Chan thanked legends Nadolo and Serevi for delivering drills, sharing their knowledge and supporting teams during the friendly matches.

“For us, we want to give back and support the community, and grassroots rugby is a wonderful part of that. We’re delighted to be able to provide this support,” he said.
