Cuvu College keeps feet grounded

Cuvu College’s Under-18 side is refusing to get carried away after its convincing 55-7 victory over St John’s College at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, shifting its focus instead to the Vodafone Deans national quarter-finals.

The side will face Nasinu Secondary School at Garvey Park in Tavua on Saturday.

Assistant coach and strength and conditioning coach Samisoni Navatu said the team remained committed to improving despite securing a place in the last eight.

“Our main goal is to focus on ourselves,” Navatu told SUNsports on Saturday.

“People and our supporters expect a lot from us, but our focus is on becoming better with every game and every tournament.”

Navatu said there were still areas the side needed to improve ahead of the quarter-finals.

“We need to look after the ball better. Some of our 50-50 passes are costing us possession, and we also need to improve our decision-making before we head into the quarter-finals,” he said.

He said the players had embraced the team’s goals and were determined to deliver.

“The team knows what our target is, and we will continue working hard to achieve it when we take the field next week,” he said.

Navatu also called on supporters to get behind the team.

“To our fans, supporters and the Cuvu College family, we ask for your continued support. The boys have gone into camp, and we hope everyone will come together and back them as they prepare for the quarter-finals.”

The match kicks off at 3:05pm.
