Drua starts Super W preparations

The Fijian Drua has named a strong squad for the 2026 Super Rugby Women’s (Super W) season.

The squad was unveiled yesterday, which features 18 capped Vodafone Fijiana XVs players from last year’s Rugby World Cup, alongside 12 new inclusions and three returning players.

Among the returnees is standout speedster Atelini Buna, who made a strong impact in her debut 2024 season with six tries. She returns alongside flanker Sulita Waisega and nippy halfback Evivi Senikarivi.

Back-to-back title-winning captain (2022 and 2023) Bitila Tawake has been tasked to lead the squad this season.

With 17 appearances, the 27-year-old has demonstrated her versatility with the ability to play both in the back and front rows. She will be supported by Fijiana XV captain Alfreda Fisher and veteran Kolora Lomani, who have been named vice-captains.

Three 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup reps Manuqalo Komaitai, Verenaisi Ditavutu and Michellae Stolz have forced their way into the Drua squad. Joining them in the Super W is national 15s players: Keri Lawavou (Nadi), Elesi Saukuru (Nadi), Zipporah Sorokacika (Nasinu), Selai Naliva (Suva), Karavaki Lutumaibau (Nadroga), Vilisi Tivalele (Nadroga), Varanisese Qoro (Nadi), Ruth Raketekete (Nasinu), Vika Nakacia (Nadroga), Aqela Raitubu (Nasinu) and Ivamere Nabura (Namosi).

Also, back from injury rehab is centre Vani Arei, after she missed last season’s competition.

The Ifereimi Rawaqa-coached side play their Super W opener against NSW Waratahs at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney, Australia, on June 6.
