Fijian rugby player dies in Tokyo

Sekove Tagicakiverata was rushed to hospital on Thursday and was later pronounced dead the day after. The cause of his death is yet to be determined.

The death of a Fiji rugby player who was also studying at the Nihon University in Tokyo, Japan, last Friday has shocked the community there.

Sekove Tagicakiverata was rushed to hospital on Thursday and was later pronounced dead the day after.

“I have faced challenging times in my life and never asked God why, because His plans a better than mine,” sevens maestro Waisale Serevi posted on his Facebook page regarding Tagicakiverata’s death.

Tagicakiverata was a former Marist Brothers High School student.

He played utility back for Eastern Saints and Covenant Brothers in the Suva Rugby Union club competition. He was described by friends as a hardworking and funny individual both on and off the field.

Many who watched him play dubbed him as a person who has a big future in rugby.

Tagicakiverata was also part the Officers Cadet training in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

The cause of his death is yet to be determined.
