Kadavu eyes Escott Shield berth

The Birdland Kadavu rugby team will have to improve on their breakdown work to increase their hopes of securing a spot in the Koroturaga Cup final.
The team progressed to the semi-final after defeating QVSOB White 27–24 at the National Stadium, Suva, last Saturday.
Kadavu head coach Aliki Sevanakadavu said they were motivated to return to the Escott Shield competition after withdrawing last year due to financial constraints.

“We returned this year for the Koroturaga competition to learn more and so that the boys can give their best for the Suva Rugby Union,” he said.
“Most of our players are young and are vying for a spot in the Kadavu Under-20 team for the Skipper Cup competition.”
Sevanakadavu shared that their goal is to reach the final and return to the Escott Shield competition.
“We returned to the Suva Rugby Union competition in 2023 after 13 years, and we reached the Escott Shield tier in 2024,” he said.
“We remained in the Escott Shield from 2024 to 2025. We were relegated to the Koroturaga Cup tier last year because we didn’t pay our fees.”
The Kadavu team is aiming to win the Koroturaga Cup and a return to tier-one status.
“I would like to thank all the people of Kadavu for their support throughout this season,” Sevanakadavu said.
“We ask them to continue their support for this team as we regroup and prepare for the semi-final.”
Sevanakadavu also acknowledged divine intervention in their win against QVSOB White.
