The decision to appoint Koli Sewabu as the new chief executive officer of the Fiji Rakavi Football Union (FRU) was reached only after a strong push back from some board members, with alleged threats of resignations intensifying the standoff.
It took twenty-four hours after the initial press conference call on Thursday to finally reach a unanimous decision. As a former Flying Fijian, player welfare is naturally on his mind.
“We now have a Fiji Rugby Player As sociation on board. Differences among some board members emerged over Sewabu’s appointment.

Sewabu was the top scorer among the four shortlisted, including marketing guru Joseph Rodan.
Sewabu has since served as acting CEO over the past six months, following the vacancy left by former Rovereto Nayaca levu.
“For me today this is not just a role, but a profound responsibility and calling that I accepted with immense humility and gratitude,” Sewabu said.
He thanked his family and faith for their support. Sewabu’s mission is simple - build to strengthen and create a lasting legacy for the next generation.
On his to-do-list is the strengthening of governance and financial sustainability. “Our team will go out and consult and run training and education.
“We will do an audit of our governance and administration of Fiji Rugby and work with our unions to make sure that we are fully compliant,” he said.
“We are looking at the accreditation of agents, the proper setup of rugby academies, and insurance structures for the better protection of our younger players.”
FRU engaged Maxumise Limited to manage the recruitment process.
