Macuata bagged their first Skipper Cup win of the season against Vatukoula, 29-27, in a tight battle at Lekutu Secondary School grounds in Bua last Saturday.

They now shift their focus to host the INKK Farebrother holders Naitasiri this Saturday.

Head coach Osea Umuumulovo thanked his players for sticking to the game plan despite the tough challenge from the men from the gold town.

“We have about four matches left and I told the boys that our aim is to qualify for the quarter final,” Umuumulovo said.

“We hope play Naitasiri at Subrail Park.”

Vatukoula led with a good start and led, 20-19, at halftime.

Vatukoula head coach Emori Ratu said the long travel was one of the factors that affected their performance.

“We have a number of few matches left and this means when we return home, we are going to look at the mistakes made here and then recover from the previous loss definitely,” Ratu said.

“One of the areas of concern is defense.”

He thanked the supporters who travelled from West to support their team.
