The Apisai Naevo coached- Eteni Rukunirara Youth XVs will make their debut in the Nadi Rugby Union club competition next week.
The side lost 7-5 in their opening pool match to Western Marine (Narewa) in the NRU 10s tournament yesterday.
Naevo said the players are made up of youths from the Nawaka back road mainly from the junction of International School. That covers areas like Solovi, Maigania, Nasau, Nawaka and Vatutu.
“This is our debut year and will be part of the Nadi Rugby Union from this season. This team is basically made up of youths,” said the former Auckland Blues lock.
The side is captained by Tevita Nasomia who is expected to play for Nawaka at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament.
“We have played in the Pratap Asphalt Nadi Jets 10s and the Nawaka 7s.
“We have teams in the four other categories under-12, under-14, under-16 (boys and girls), and under-18.
“We are working closely with the grassroots similar to something in New Zealand,” he added.

Nadi Rugby Union secretary Jeff Tamata said 36 teams from all their affiliated clubs are part of the pre-season competition.
“On Saturday, we will have the inaugural junior competition where the five junior clubs from Nawaka, Saunaka, Jet Sets, Dratabu, and Eteni will be fielding each team in the four categories,” he said.
