McDonald’s Fiji Drua prop Karalaini Naisewa hopes to continue inspiring young rugby players across the country as she prepares for Saturday’s Super W clash against the Queensland Reds in Brisbane.

The Narata, Nadroga native has etched her name in Drua history as the club’s most-capped women’s player with 27 appearances and is also the team’s leading try-scorer with 10 tries.

Naisewa, one of the remaining members of the inaugural Drua squad in 2022, said reaching the milestone was never part of her plans.

“I am proud of the achievement and hope to inspire the nation,” she said.

“I never dreamed of becoming the most-capped player in the team, but I always push myself at training and my teammates continue to support me on the field.”

The experienced front-rower was recently named in the Super W Team of the Week alongside fellow front-rowers Keleni Marawa, Tiana Robanakadavu, Mereoni Nakesa and Carletta Yee following the Drua’s Round Three performance.

Drua Women’s head coach Mike Legge praised the contribution of his front row, saying they played a crucial role in the team’s success.

“Our game is built around physicality and set-pieces, and the front row has a big responsibility in that area. They were immense on the weekend,” Legge said.

He described Naisewa as one of the team’s key leaders both on and off the field.

“She’s immense for us, not only for what she does on the field but also for her leadership and the way she mentors our younger players.

“Kara is just Kara. She continues to work hard every day and leads by example.”

Legge also commended the efforts of Marawa and Robakadavu, saying their recognition in the Team of the Week reflected the hard work they had put in during the off-season.

“It shows the players are putting in the work and the recognition is a testament to their commitment and effort.”

Naisewa and the Drua Women will be looking to continue their strong form when they take on the Reds this weekend.
