The Fijian Drua will have a new chief executive officer at the start of next year.
The franchise club confirmed yesterday that current CEO Mark Evans has completed his three-year term and will be leaving in December. Evans did not want to extend his contract for personal reasons. Drua board chairman, Brent Impey acknowledged the dedication and experience Evans brought to the franchise club.
"Mark arrived at the Drua at just the right time, bringing an outstanding set of skills backed up by a deep love for and experience with Super Rugby," Impey said.
"Mark has contributed tremendously to getting the foundation in place for the Drua to be successful both on and off the field. Mark has set-up the Drua as a professional sports operation that enjoys the best broadcast stats in the Pacific.
"This is an incredible offline and online fanbase, incorporated the Fijian Drua women's team, turned on some of the most exciting games of the last two seasons and built a wonderful sporting club, supported by a world-class high-performance team.
"His decision to resign from the role is a personal one and the board has accepted his notice. We are a long way down the track in terms of appointing a successor and expect to announce the successful candidate very shortly" Evans will continue in the role until December 31 and continue as a trustee of the Drua Foundation, which the club established this year to support the development of young rugby talent and using the Drua brand to drive a number of social impact programmes across the country.
