The Fiji Police Force has urged spectators to obey the law in tomorrow’s Vodafone Super Deans Finals at Suva’s National Stadium.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe said Police would be out in numbers.
“We will be providing tight securities, bags check at the gates like we have been doing the past weeks,” Vusonilawe said.
“I remind parents to be vigilant and know of their children’s whereabouts after the games. If you have any difficulties finding them, the Police is always there to help.
“People should keep safe, it’s wet weather in Suva. Beware of your surroundings when using public transportation. The law remains the law so abide by it.”
When approached Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, also urged fans to enjoy the finals safely. “We hope that it will be a safe event.
It is a drug-free event and we want everybody to enjoy the finals from Under-14 to Under-19.
“I wish every team well and hopefully that we will continue to understand that this is a programme that is run by the Ministry of Education to allow students to express their talents, express their skills in terms of sports, in terms of leadership, in terms of teamwork and good behaviour.
“So it is a combination of criteria and factors that we hope that school children will continue to learn out of this competition, as it has been in the past.”
Grandstand tickets sold out
The $30 grandstand tickets for the Vodafone Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve finals have been sold out, reflecting strong demand ahead of the school rugby showdowns.
Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union vice president Biu Colati confirmed the grandstand tickets were snapped up quickly.
The grandstand has a seating capacity of 4000. Fans who have not secured grandstand tickets can still watch the finals from the concrete embankment or grass areas.
Embankment tickets cost $20, while grass admission is $10.
The finals are expected to draw a large crowd as schools’ battle for honours in the Deans and Raluve competitions.
