Kaiviti Silktails players put pen to paper ahead of the 2021 Ron Massey Cup.
The 28 member squad signed their contracts at the Centre of Excellence in Lautoka yesterday.
Speaking to SunSports, head coach Wes Naiqama said the induction was a special moment for the local players.
“Today was our induction, this is our first time after announcing our final 12 we had come together as a squad, we had decided to bring them here to Lautoka and also their families as it is a special moment for these boys,” he said.
“It is a massive achievement in getting selected to represent us next year.”
“The whole theory about today was just letting them know in meeting our chairman and chief executive officer and explain to their families what lies ahead in regard to our planning and our training programme and to relocate to Australia next year to play in the RonMassey Cup.
“We reminded them the higher level you go, the higher the expectations. We had to remind them of what their expectations are and what their responsibilities are. They are also here signing their contracts and to see the facilities to sort of get engaged on what it is and what their situation is going to be like for their four weeks in January before we fly to Australia.”
“From the previous Silktails team that played from the start of the year, there are two left here.”
Travelling To Australia
“Traveling schedules change every day, we are in regular contact with DFAT and the NSW Government and we are looking to fly off now on the 25th of January. We are looking at getting a chartered flight that will take us straight from here to the Gold Coast in which we will do our quarantine at a sporting complex for two weeks which is great for us especially being a sporting team and in that way we don’t lose any time for our preparation.”
