The Moala Nakia-captained Wadigi Salvos 7s side received a major sponsorship boost towards its Super 7s Series campaign in Lautoka yesterday.
While handing over the jersey to the team, the New Zealand Overseas Trading Corporation (South Pacific) PTE Limited general manager, Bhawin Mishra, said the sponsorship was worth $1,300.
“We are proud to sponsor Wadigi Salvo from Lauwaki Village in these trying times.
“When teams are excited to play, we are also proud to provide them jerseys so we are feeling great,” he said.
“We have some relations with them as we have some banner in the koro (village) and we are happy to sponsor sports.”
Team manager Apimeleki Nasalo said this was a grand opportunity for the team members as they look forward to the second leg of the series in Nadi next month.
“We are thankful as team especially at a time when the boys are struggling to get ends meet,” he said.
“The preparations are going well for the series. We will play in the Nawaka 7s so the boys are getting ready.”
The Super 7s series will take place on February 19-20 at Prince Charles Park, Nadi where Wadigi Salvos are pooled with Raiwasa Taveuni, Tabadamu and the Eastern Saints.
Meanwhile, the side was supposed to take part at the Mobil Uprising 7s this weekend but due to prevailing rainy weather, the event has been postponed.
