The Nadi rugby team received a timely boost before they host INKK Mobile Farebrother Sullivan Trophy holders Naitasiri in Saturday’s Skipper Cup clash at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

This was after the Nadi Rugby Union senior executives received a $30,000 sponsorship from Al-Hamd Smart Living yesterday.

Al-Hamd Smart Living managing director Ashfaaq Khan said: “My connection to this runs deep. I hail from Malabar (Nawaka), and I understand first-hand the place that rugby holds in the heart of every Fijian village. It is more than a game; it is a pillar of our community.”

For years, it is the company’s way of giving back to the community starting with the support of champion clubs like Korotabu (Vatutu Rugby Club).

“Their success has been a source of great pride for us all. The bigger purpose (social and corporate responsibility) we have been given the strength to expand our support to the district level.

“This step-up is a natural progression of our love for the game and our unwavering commitment to the people of Nadi,” Khan said.

“This sponsorship is a core part of our social responsibility. It is our way of investing in our youth, fostering community pride, and supporting the raw talent that covers all your key points perfectly.”

NRU president Api Naevo said it was great to see the Al-Hamd owner is from Nawaka, rising above all to assist the Nadi rugby side.

“He (Khan) grew up with us in Nawaka, he assisted the local clubs and now he is going to help the union team,” the legendary Flying Fijians lock said.

The match kicks-off at 3pm.
