Wainikeli District School (WDS) teachers are bringing the Taveuni Under-14 girls team with the aim to win their category in the Vodafone Kaji Nationals that got underway at Suva's HFC Bank Stadium yesterday.

This was revealed by WDS teacher Timoci Mainawalevu during an interview with SUNsports.

"Our main aim for coming here is to win," he reiterated.

"A lot of sacrifices have been made by parents, teachers, and supporters.

"Everyone has played a part in getting us here."

Mainawalevu said the team is made up of 15 of the best players selected from district matches.

"The squad had an intensive two weeks training camp leading up to the national competition.

"Under the guidance of their dedicated coaches and management team, these young athletes have shown discipline, commitment, and an unbreakable bond both on and off the field."

He said bringing the students from various schools across Taveuni had its financial challenges.

"Despite this, the team's executives arranged for accommodation at a central location where the players trained, ate, and lived together. This is where they developed togetherness.

"To make the camp possible, parents generously prepared meals for the players, demonstrating the team's community support.

"Many supporters contributed from their own pockets, demonstrating a strong dedication to youth development especially girls' rugby on the island."

Mainawalevu said the team thanked their head teachers, parents, and all supporters who made the trip over to Suva possible.
