The Nadi senior men’s team fought till the last minute of the game to win narrowly, 17-15, against Lautoka at Churchill Park, last Saturday.

Captain Veniona Vukinagauna said while it was a tough battle between against the General Machinery-sponsored team, they played until the final whistle.

He indicated the Jet Set town side fielded young guns with only three senior players including Vilive Aria, and Peni Malumu.

“I want to thank God for giving us the strength and special thanks to the boys,” Vukinagauna said.

“Like I have said only three of us who were playing from last year in the senior team all the rest are new players, but we made it.

“We have one and half minutes left, we were able to keep the ball and a penalty for us and we won the game.”

He acknowledged their sponsors and the management for trusting them.

“We were expecting a strong game against Lautoka.

“We had a warmup game against them. I know they are a strong team with experienced players, but we were able to counter that today.”

Vukinagauna said there are few things that they need to work on to improve before they host Macuata on Friday night.

Nadi women also won, 24-13, against Lautoka in their Marama Cup Round 1 clash.
