The Fiji Police Force football team has defended the 2020 FMF Sukuna Bowl title.
They beat the Republic of Fiji Military Forces team 2-0, at Albert Park, yesterday.
Labasa rep Ratu Anare Apenisa scored in each half for the champs.
Goalkeeper and team captain Akuila Mateisuva, dedicated the win to all Police officers.
“First of all, as always we thank the God Almighty for being with us since we started camp,” he said.
“Secondly, I thank our military brothers for giving us a good game and also to our supporters.
“Hats off to the boys for a job well done today.
“This win is dedicated to the officers out there who have been working tirelessly.
“This is the return of investment since we were released to come and play for the Sukuna Bowl.
“And I think that was the message from the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Itendra Nair.
“Overall we dedicated this win to all the men and women out there in the field. Thank you for holding the fort,” the 28-year-old added.
“Always better to finish season on a high and I believe that is the dream of every player. We could have done this without the help of the hardworking officials.”
And star of the side was midfielder Ratu Anare. He scored both goals to seal the win for the Blues.
“This goal is for my colleagues back at the Labasa Police Station.
“This win is for you and also to our families for their support.
“And not forgetting the officials for the effort during our training and preparation.
“This was not my own but team effort. We worked together for this win,” the Savusavuitaqa, Macuata, native added.
The Police side was dominated by district players compared to the RFMF. And despite that, RFMF team manager Sunil Sudesh Deo was happy with their performance.
“Well I am proud that although we got defeated by 2-0, we played against a star-studded team,” he said.
“And I have no regrets, both teams played well.
“We will be better next year.”
The FMF Sukuna Bowl games will continue today at 10am with the volleyball and netball at the National Netball Centre, in Suva.
