Fiji Aquatics has a squad of 74 swimmers for the Oceania Championship and will have their first camp in Nadi on February 7.

These swimmers are divided into six groups from platinum to juniors and were selected according to the time standards established by Fiji Aquatics.

The squads are platinum, gold, silver, development and juniors.

Vice president West Errol Taylor said these swimmers include Olympians David Young, Anahira McCutcheon, Samuela Yalimaiwai, Hansel McCaig and Kelera Mudunasoko who is on a scholarship in Australia.

“Young is the only one in the platinum group. He was the first Fiji swimmer to swim in the U.S time trial final which was never done before,” Taylor said.

“Three swimmers are in gold and five in silver because it is based on their World Aquatic points.

“We have also had our gold medallists from Palau – Yalimaiwai, McCaig and Mudunasoko.”

Taylor added there are a lot of young swimmers who also participated at the first competition on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Fiji will host the Oceania Aquatics Championship from May 8-14 in Suva.
