The Mid Central men and women’s teams have set their sights in reaching the final of the Easter National Volleyball Championship tournament.
A total of six teams from the Mid Central Volleyball Association (MCVA) will be participating in the tournament.
MCVA president Josh Tulele said the three men and women’s team have prepared well for the past four weeks.
“With the big demand in court hire for the Fiji Sports Council facilities, we were training outside for the first two weeks,” he said.
“In the last two weeks, we came to the gym as most teams were vying for the court but so far, we’ve been preparing well.”
Challenges
Tulele added that they were faced with financial challenges but remain focused on their goal.
“Our Purple team reached the semi-finals in the last two competitions, which is the Vulaca and Vanua tournament.” The Mid Central volleyball teams will look to maintain their progress to the semi-final with the aim of a finals berth.
“There’s a lot of pressure involved for our players, but we’ll see how it goes with all the preparation we’ve been doing,” he said.
“We basically tried to teach them all that we can to equip them for this tournament in terms of basic and individual skills with combination as well.”
Motivation
Tulele has emphasised to his team to enjoy their game during the tournament.
“We have seen how we couldn’t cope under pressure that has to do with our mental fitness, so we were working a lot on those areas, and we’ll see if it works,” he said.
“The motivation is for the players to enjoy their game.”
Tulele urged all supporters of the MCVA to turn up at the Arena and back the team in the three-day tournament.
