If you live in Lautoka and travel into the city area regularly you will see a young man holding up placards with a motivational quote written on it.

That young man is 20-year-old, Shay Sabran Shahafi.

His unique idea to stand alone at the roundabout that directs traffic into the city area, the Lautoka Hospital, towards Ba and Nadi came about on Monday morning.

Shay, a former Central College student, is a Certified Digital Marketer.

He said he was inspired by America’s motivational speaker and coach Tony Robbins.

On Monday, he stood with his placards displaying the words: ‘You’re Doing Your Best. Have a Great Week’.

On Tuesday he wrote: ‘Better Days ahead, Keep Breathing. Have a Great Day’.

Yesterday, his motivational message was ‘You matter. Have a Great Day’.

Mr Shahafi can be seen during the morning peak rush between 7.30am and 9am.

“The idea to start holing my placards at one of the busiest places in Lautoka was a spontaneous idea,” he said.

“I thought maybe I should just do this because I am normally a shy person and it was difficult for me at first.

“When I stood at the roundabout, people waved at me and that pushed to carry on. Once your positive thoughts take over your negative thoughts, you will change your life.”

He aspires to work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to empower youths in the different communities.
