Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort on Denarau Island in Nadi has lined up a full programme of festive events for Christmas and New Year.
This began with its Grand Christmas Tree Lighting last night.
About 500 people attended the lighting ceremony, including hotel guests and members of the Denarau community. The event officially marked the start of the resort’s holiday season.

The resort purchased its Christmas decorations directly from suppliers this year, while the food and beverage team worked for weeks preparing for the ceremony.
Complex hotel manager Yvo van Dijk said the holiday programme includes a traditional Christmas Eve dinner across the resort’s restaurants.
“Now, in terms of the holiday season, this is really the time of year that embodies Fiji. This is the time of year that we see multi-generational travel,” he said. “We have a lot of customers who have been coming back from the old Fijian days to visit Denarau. They’ve been coming for 30 or 40 years. If they were kids then, now they are parents and grandparents.”
Mr van Dijk said the Christmas Eve dinner will be held at Island 619, the resort’s largest buffet restaurant and one of the biggest buffets in the South Pacific.
On Christmas Day, guests can expect an extensive breakfast spread, followed by a Christmas brunch at Island 619.
“Between Christmas and New Year, we have various fun activities and a big party for all of our customers staying with us,” he said. “It is a beach party to celebrate the end of the year as we get close to the New Year.”
He said the resort will host what they expect to be “the biggest fireworks in Fiji” on New Year’s Eve.
Local guest Casey Quimby praised the resort for creating a festive atmosphere.
“It is great to have events like this, especially during the holidays. The Sheraton welcoming guests and locals alike to join in the festive spirit is fantastic,” she said.
