Fiji Coconut Millers Pte Limited (FCML) is strengthening its commitment to coconut farmers across Macuata, Bua, Cakaudrove, Lau, and Lomaiviti.

This is an effort the Government says is essential to revitalising the coconut industry and stabilising rural livelihoods.

Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, Arts and Public Enterprises, Charan Jeath Singh, met with the FCML board of directors and commended the company for its progress, particularly its work in expanding opportunities for farmers and diversifying into value‑added products such as scented oils and soaps.

Mr Singh praised FCML for building strong partnerships with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders, saying these efforts are helping increase farmer participation and market confidence.

However, he stressed that sustainability and financial discipline must remain central to the company’s operations.

“As I have consistently stated across our public enterprises, sustainability must be the priority,” the Minister said.

He noted that while Government assistance plays a key role in stabilising strategic entities, the long-term objective is to develop commercially viable, self-sustaining organisations that reduce reliance on public funding over time.

Mr Singh emphasised that Government investment in FCML aims not only to maintain operations but to drive growth, innovation, and stronger economic contributions as a profitable national industry player.

He encouraged FCML to continue its diversification strategy through value addition, operational efficiency, new market expansion, and strengthened commercial discipline.

The Minister further highlighted opportunities to maximise the use of local by-products to support the circular economy, modernise digital systems in farming and milling, develop crisis-trigger pricing mechanisms, and explore potential export markets for coconut-based products.

“Government fully expects FCML to continue evolving as a leading manufacturer of coconut products, balancing commercial performance with strong social and development impacts,” he said.

Mr Singh reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to FCML as a cornerstone of the coconut sector, adding that the company’s success directly boosts farmer confidence and supports rural income stability.
