The charges laid by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) against former Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica are defective.

Kamikamica's lawyer, Wylie Clarke, raised this at the Suva Magistrate Court this morning while arguing his case.

Mr Clarke appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele without his client.

Kamikamica is charged with one count each of perjury and giving false information to a public servant.

In court, Mr Clarke questioned the appointment of FICAC Commissioner Lavi Rokoika, saying it did not comply with Section 115(2) of the 2013 Constitution, and that she had no authority than he did to file the charges.

He said the charges were vague, imprecise and unsupported. The case was adjourned to Friday for Kamikamica's bail hearing.
