Investigations are ongoing to identify a sixth individual involved in a viral video showing reckless driving along Mead Road in Nabua last week.

The Fiji Police Force has confirmed that five people have already been issued Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs) for careless driving. Authorities say the individuals allegedly provided false information to the rental car company involved.

A raid was conducted at the Mead Road Housing complex by the Southern Division Task Force, where police gathered details about those allegedly driving the vehicles in a dangerous manner.

Acting Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga said the investigation will continue until all individuals involved are held accountable for their irresponsible actions.

“The investigation will not stop until everyone involved is taken to task for endangering the lives of innocent road users,” ACP Lutunauga said.

He also responded to criticism from a media outlet that described police action as “lip service,” calling the comment uncalled for.

ACP Lutunauga reiterated that investigators could not just “guess” and assume who was behind the wheel, and use it as grounds to lay charges, and called on the media to be responsible with what they publish.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and called on the public to be considerate and respectful of all road users.
