Suva teacher charged with alleged rape of student

Alleged offence said to have occurred on school premises earlier this year.

A teacher from a prominent school in Suva has been charged with allegedly raping a student on the school premises earlier this year.

The accused appeared before the High Court in Suva this morning for his first appearance. No plea was taken.

It is alleged that the teacher called the student into the physical education office, where the alleged rape occurred.

Defence lawyer Patrick Kumar filed a bail application, with the court reserving its ruling.

The accused was remanded in custody.
