New $627k Nailawa crossing improves access for 1,500 people in Ra
Project expected to improve transport, education, healthcare and trade.

More than 1,500 people in the Tokaimalo Valley in Ra now have improved road access following the opening of the $627,000 Nailawa crossing yesterday.
Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau said the project reflected the Government's commitment to strengthening rural connectivity and improving the lives of Fijians.
The crossing links communities in the districts of Nalawa and Saivou, including the villages of Nailawa, Namataveikai, Vunisea and Nabalabala.

"For our farmers, this means easier transportation of crops and livestock to market. For our children, it provides safer access to school. For families, it means quicker access to health services and emergency assistance, while businesses will benefit from improved opportunities for trade and economic activity," Ro Filipe said.
He urged residents of Nailawa and surrounding villages to take ownership of the crossing and help preserve it for future generations.
The minister also acknowledged the contributions of the ministry's technical teams, engineers, contractors, traditional leaders, landowners and other stakeholders whose combined efforts made the project possible.
The Nailawa crossing is expected to strengthen rural connectivity and support long-term social and economic development across Ra Province.
