Pacific Fibre Conference 2026 opens with focus on AI, digital connectivity

The Pacific Fibre Conference 2026 gets underway today, with discussions set to focus on strengthening digital connectivity and preparing the Pacific for the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
Regional leaders, telecommunications experts and technology partners have gathered at the Sheraton Fiji Resort & Spa for the two-day conference.
Hosted by Telecom Fiji, the conference is themed "Pacific Connected: Foundations for the AI Era."

The event is expected to highlight the growing importance of fibre infrastructure as the backbone supporting emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing and digital services.
Discussions will also examine how improved connectivity can drive economic growth, foster innovation and promote social inclusion across the Pacific.
Telecom Fiji chief executive officer Charles Goundar is expected to reaffirm the company's commitment to advancing Fiji's digital transformation by outlining ongoing investments to expand fibre and broadband networks, strengthen core infrastructure and enhance international connectivity.
Delegates will also explore how stronger digital infrastructure can create new opportunities for businesses, improve public services, expand access to education and enable Pacific communities to participate more fully in the global digital economy.
Organisers say collaboration between governments, telecommunications providers, technology companies and development partners will be critical to ensuring the Pacific is well positioned to embrace emerging technologies and meet growing demand for digital services.
