The Coalition Government has reinforced its commitment to early childhood education, increasing funding for the sector while calling on families and communities to give every child the best possible start in life.
Launching Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week 2026 at Albert Park in Suva yesterday, Minister for Education Mr Aseri Radrodro said quality early childhood education was essential in building children's confidence, knowledge and life skills while laying the foundation for Fiji's future.
This year's theme, "Together for Every Child's First Step: Early Learning and Endless Possibilities," highlights the importance of providing children with a strong educational foundation before they begin formal schooling.

Mr Radrodro said the early years were the most critical stage of a child's development, where children develop essential thinking, communication, social and emotional skills that prepare them for lifelong learning.
He encouraged families and communities to participate in the week's activities, saying the celebrations allowed young children to showcase their talents, creativity and confidence.
Mr Radrodro also acknowledged the dedication of Fiji's 1,435 early childhood teachers, including about 300 serving schools in the Suva Education District.
The Government has allocated $34.176 million for Early Childhood Education in the 2026-2027 National Budget, an increase from $32.336 million in the previous financial year.
"Our Ministry has also completed full salary payments for all ECE teachers under its full-day programme," Mr Radrodro said.
Valenicina Kindergarten teacher Shivangni Reddy welcomed the official opening, saying ECE Week gave children an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones.
"This is the opportunity we have to let the students come out of their comfort zones.
"It is also an opportunity to recognise the value of early childhood education and the work being done by teachers, parents and communities," Ms Reddy said.
Mr Radrodro officially declared Early Childhood Education Week 2026 open.
