Labasa College’s newly inducted head girl and head boy say their parents are their biggest inspiration and proof that hard work pays off.

A total of 91 students were inducted as prefects during the school’s prefect induction ceremony held in Labasa today.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh was the chief guest.

Head girl Nimisha Smiti Dayal, 18, said she felt honoured and proud to take on the leadership role.

“I feel honoured and proud to be inducted as head girl,” she said.

She said managing her responsibilities would require organisation and teamwork.

“I try to be organised. I prioritise my studies and at the same time work closely with my prefect team so we can support each other.”

Nimisha said leadership was about setting the right example.

“As head girl, we should set examples for students. Leadership is a big responsibility, but I am excited to serve my school and represent the students.”

She hopes to strengthen student involvement and introduce more leadership programmes and mental‑health awareness initiatives.

“I would love to thank my parents, teachers, and classmates for believing in me and supporting me,” she said.

“My parents are my role models. They never gave up and that inspires me.”

She also had a message for students. “Never let temporary pressure destroy permanent dreams. Protect your future, it is worth it.”

Head boy Suryansh Chand said he was proud to carry the responsibility of leading the school.

“I feel really proud to carry this responsibility and uplift my school’s name,” he said. “Being a leader does not mean you are the boss. It means you take people with you and work together.”

Suryansh said he manages his academic and leadership roles by setting timelines and staying disciplined.

“My role model is my mother. She never gave up on her dreams and that keeps me motivated to move forward,” he said.

He encouraged students to believe in themselves. “Dreams do come true. It is not impossible. Hard work does pay off.”
